Who recommends choline in pregnancy?
The National Medical Association, the largest professional group of Black doctors, convinced the American Medical Association to recommend choline or phosphatidylcholine supplements for all pregnant women. The U.S. FDA recently raised its minimum daily amount for pregnant women to 550 mg. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for all pregnant women. Our team, under the direction of M. Camille Hoffman, M.D., a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist and obstetrician has safely administered phosphatidylcholine supplements to over 25 Black women, among 200 in our clinical trials under FDA regulations. Other clinical trials in the U.S. and Africa have administered supplements to another 200 women. No safety problems for mothers or infants have been found.
